To know Paris you must know the Paris 20 Arrondissements, or the neighborhoods of Paris. They move out from the center of Paris like a snail. Each Arrondissement has its own unique character. Arrondissement 1 is the center of Paris where you will find most of the tourism and attractions, like the Louvre. 2 is the business district where you can find the Bourse and Bibliotheque Nationale. Mansions of the 17th century can be found on Arrondissement 3 and 4, which make up one of the oldest and liveliest neighborhoods in the city.
If you are looking for the famous Latin Quarter amongst the Paris 20 Arrondissements, it is located in 5 Arrondissement a small neighborhood named for the Sorbonne. Bohemians and intellectuals used to call 6 their home. Now this arrondissement known as St Germain is gentrified and home to the newly chic. The Eiffel Tower is 7 Arrondissement’s most famous attraction. The upscale 8 Arrondissement is the area surround the Champs Elysee and is arguably the touristiest of all Paris, and considered one of Paris’s less pretentious neighborhoods. The red light district, although quickly fading can be found in 9 Arrondissment where you can visit the Paris Opera and a mixture of residences and businesses. The Moulin Rouge comes from 9 Arrondissement.
Don’t worry we’re halfway through the Paris 20 Arrondissement! At the halfway mark, you can find both of Paris’s train stations interspersed amongst a bohemian multi cultured neighborhood. 11 and 12 Arrondissements are primarily residential neighborhoods although in 11 you find the New Opera and the Bastille. Lucky number 13 is also residential, but if you happen by, you want to check out Paris’s Chinatown which calls 13 its home. 14 Arrondissement is also very residential. However, 14 has very charming cafes and restaurants, and Montparnasse can be found here. 15 Arrondissement is considered an affordable residential neighborhood bordering the 7th Arrondissement and the Seine.
Amongst the Paris 20 Arrondissements, 16 is considered the ultimate residential neighborhood for the wealthy. 17 is a very diverse neighborhood and is where the L’Arc de Triomphe can be found as well as, Parc Monceau. Montmartre is located at 18 Arondissment, considered to be a very artsy and touristy locale. 19 is considered a very ethnic residential neighborhood sporting many shops and restaurants. And, finally, 20 Arrondissement is the home of most Parisian yuppies as well as, Belleville and Pere LeChaise cemeteries.
